To friends and advisors of Plexus:
I’m writing with two big pieces of news and a request.
News
1. We incorporated as a Public Benefit Corporation and adopted a simple mission: enable broad participation on the internet.
What that means: broad participation will be core to everything we do. We’ll work to make products that are accessible even to non-technical people, architect communities that offer members a sense of belonging, and make decisions that optimize our positive impact on everyone, not just on the individuals and companies who pay us.
Our intention is to guard against a category of decisions made frequently by venture-backed companies—decisions that, say, optimize engagement for the benefit of advertisers but at the expense of users. For an example, see #2 of “15 Moments that Defined Facebook’s First 15 Years.”
2. We raised a $1.2m pre-seed round to build an extraordinary founding team. Plexus is now backed by a set of exceptional, impact-focused investors, including Betaworks, Outlander, and Forum.
Request
We’re looking for a Founding Engineer, among other roles. If you know someone who is an outstanding leader, coder, and writer, I’d love to talk (davey@plexusnotes.com).
Consistently grateful for you all,
Davey
