To Plexus’ early advisors & friends,
We’d like to invite you, today, to the newest version of Plexus (which supports communal threading):
Relative to Twitter-clones, Plexus has a few differences:
There are no followers—because followers are as arcane on the internet as they are in real life.
There is no broadcasting—because it’s out of tune to share the things you’re thinking with everyone you know.
There are no public profiles—because people you don’t know should not be able to see everything you’ve ever said.
We made V2 as a space for unresolved thoughts—the thoughts you most want to talk discuss, but which you’d never dare to Tweet.
All of you who have been along since Plexus’ beginning know well: it’s been a winding path to find the right product-starting-point—from connecting notes, to connecting people within existing communities, to now connecting people through an open social network.
We’ve remained patient, and held out on good directions, because an internet with broad participation is at stake.
But now, we feel very close. As Twitter clones abound, people are becoming aware that the internet lacks space for broad & authentic participation. With your help, Plexus may soon provide it.
Reach out with anything—either over email, in our in-app feedback thread, or in our upcoming 5/1 contributor call.
I’m grateful for you all. And I’m feeling grateful for this opportunity to do our life’s work.
Davey
postscript 1 please don’t share the invite link. but do email me at davey@plexus.earth, or reply to this thread, if you’d like invites of your own.
postscript 2 as hundreds more people subscribe to Plexus’ Early News, I’ve grown more hesitant to blast it. Maybe I should get over that hesitance, because connecting people through thoughts is existentially important. But also, it may be that broadcasting the same words to lots of people isn’t ever worthwhile. Wrestling with this thought here.
